Start with the big Saturday. Save room for Sunday outside.

Lovettsville has the county's big Saturday festival, while Tarara closes its summer concert series for good that night. Families can choose a circus tent in Ashburn or pumpkins and pig races in Bluemont. Sunday brings two easy outdoor plans, including a rare chance to walk a wildlife sanctuary that is usually closed to the public.

№ 01
Saturday

30th Annual Lovettsville Oktoberfest

Official details

Lovettsville brings its largest annual festival back into the historic downtown for a full day of German music, food, heritage, children's activities, and local vendors. This is the best all-ages pick if you want one event that feels specific to Loudoun rather than another generic fall festival.

Admission is free. Expect street closures and a busy downtown, so check the official site for parking, shuttle, and schedule details before leaving.

№ 02
Friday through Sunday

Venardos Circus presents ALICE

Official details

The touring one-ring circus turns Alice's trip through the looking glass into an acrobatics and comedy show under its custom tent. It is the weekend's strongest indoor family option, and the multiple Saturday and Sunday performances make it easier to plan around naps, meals, or another event.

Tickets are required, and availability varies by performance. Use the official ticket page for current prices and seating options.

№ 03
Saturday

The Reflex at Tarara's final concert

Official details

The Reflex closes the 27th and final Tarara Summer Concert Series with a full set of 1980s rock, pop, and new wave. Go for the music, but also because this is the last chance to see the long-running Saturday tradition at Shadow Lake.

Online general admission is $20 for guests over 21 and $10 for guests under 21, plus fees and tax. Adult admission is $25 at the door. The concert runs rain or shine.

№ 04
Saturday and Sunday

Pumpkin Picking, Corn Maze, and Pig Races

Official details

The fall farm plan now shifts to pumpkins, with wagon rides to the patch, the 1.5-acre corn maze, pig races, cider-pressing demonstrations, marshmallow roasting, and the full play area. Choose this when the kids need a long, active day rather than a timed show.

Advance weekend admission is $14 per child and $16 per adult, plus a $1 fee. Gate admission is $18 for guests age 3 and older. Pumpkins cost 69 cents per pound and are not included. Weekend reservations are required.

№ 05
Sunday

JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary Open House

Official details

Four self-guided trails open for one day at a sanctuary that normally limits public access to protect its sensitive habitat. Volunteers will explain the vernal pools, restoration work, and community science projects, and a guided nature walk starts at 11:00 AM.

Free registration is requested. Trail entry closes at 2:30 PM. Pets are not allowed, and insect repellent is a good idea.

Also worth knowing

01

Dolly Parton Day: Rhinestone Rodeo

Friday

Dirt Farm adds Dolly-themed drinks and food to its regular Friday hours, then brings in a custom trucker-hat bar from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Dress like Dolly and the first pint is $5.

02

Loudoun Recovery Fest

Saturday

This free, family-friendly day supports people and families affected by addiction, with a community walk followed by live music, food, games, raffle prizes, and local health and recovery resources.

03

Hail to the Trail

Sunday

Purcellville's free green expo fills the 10-acre trail with hands-on nature activities, local environmental groups, tree planting, live music, face painting, free seedlings, and the town's Arbor Day celebration.

Three ways to plan it

01

If you want the biggest Loudoun day

Start at Lovettsville Oktoberfest, then head to Tarara only if you still want a scheduled evening. Leave extra travel time because both events should draw a crowd.

02

If you are planning around kids

Book a Venardos performance for a firm indoor plan, or use Great Country Farms for a longer outdoor day. Hail to the Trail is the free Sunday backup.

03

If you want to stay outside

Use JK Black Oak for the rare-access walk Sunday morning, then continue to Hail to the Trail in Purcellville for an easy second stop.
