A busy Saturday night, then an easy Sunday.

This is a good weekend for choosing one strong plan instead of trying to fit in everything. Saturday has a reunion show at Tarara, a dinner mystery in Ashburn, an indoor rock show downtown, and a hard-but-fun trail race in Bluemont. Sunday is calmer, with a free nature activity, live music, and a few practical reasons to get outside.

Friday through Sunday

Clear the Shelters at Loudoun County Animal Services

Official details

The meaningful family plan this weekend is a fee-waived adoption event for available pets. It is a real commitment, not a casual outing, but the county says most adoptions can be completed the same day after its standard screening process.

All adoption fees are waived. The adoption floor stops showing animals at 5:30 PM, so arrive by 5:00 PM if you hope to adopt that day.

№ 02
Friday

Spies and Cyanide dinner theater

Official details

A full dinner-and-a-show plan for people who want something more involved than another bar night. StageCoach's Revolutionary War murder mystery plays with a live investigation and keeps the evening indoors.

Tickets are $80, plus sales tax and ticketing fee, and include the show, buffet dinner, and dessert. The show is rated PG-13 by the producer.

№ 03
Saturday

Gonzo's Nose reunion show at Tarara

Official details

The largest outdoor music choice is a reunion set from the longtime DC party band Gonzo's Nose. Bring chairs or a blanket, pack a picnic if that is your style, and settle in for a high-energy Saturday night by the lake.

General admission was listed from $23.90 when checked Thursday. Check the official concert page for current tickets and weather updates.

№ 04
Saturday

The Inferno 5K and 10K at Dirt Farm

Official details

For the person who wants their weekend plan to involve a real climb, this trail race uses the hills around Dirt Farm and finishes with a beer for runners. It is a stronger pick than a casual jog, so choose it if rugged terrain sounds fun rather than punishing.

Registration was $40 for the 5K and $55 for the 10K after August 15, with a further $5 increase on race morning.

№ 05
Friday or Saturday

Tally Ho Theater weekend shows

Official details

The practical indoor fallback has two different moods: a late dance night Friday, then a Saturday celebration of 1970s and 1980s rock. Both give you a downtown Leesburg plan that does not depend on sunset or a field being dry.

Both shows are ticketed. The official venue calendar still showed tickets Thursday morning, but prices and availability can change.

Also worth knowing

01

Zac Townsend and The Mudcats at Dirt Farm

Saturday

A smaller outdoor music alternative if Tarara feels like too much. Expect blues, rock, and Americana, plus the brewery's final lobster-roll weekend of the summer.

02

Discover Nature's Secrets: Rock Painting

Sunday

A free, low-stakes family plan that puts some structure around an afternoon outside. The monthly Town of Purcellville program combines a nature walk setting with a rock-painting activity.

03

Waterford cemetery restoration talk and walk

Sunday

A quieter Sunday option for people who like local history. The Waterford Foundation is hosting a short talk about restoring the Union of Churches Cemetery, followed by a walk to see the completed work.

Three ways to plan it

01

If you want Saturday to feel like a night out

Pick Gonzo's Nose at Tarara for an outdoor reunion show, or choose That Arena Rock Show at Tally Ho for a downtown indoor concert. Both are better as the main plan, not an add-on after a packed day.

02

If you want an active plan

Run the Inferno in Bluemont Saturday, then return Sunday for Dirt Farm's 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Alex Kerns set if you want a softer finish.

03

If you want something family-minded

Treat Clear the Shelters as a serious adoption decision, then use Sunday rock painting in Purcellville as the no-ticket afternoon option.
